The 3M 8511 Mask is a NIOSH-approved N95 respirator, designed to provide at least 95% filtration efficiency against certain non-oil-based particles and aerosols. It features the 3M Cool Flow Exhalation Valve, which helps direct exhaled air downward, allowing for easier breathing and up to 50% less breathing resistance compared to the non-valved 3M 8200 model.

The 3M 8511 Mask is a NIOSH-approved N95 respirator, designed to provide at least 95% filtration efficiency against certain non-oil-based particles and aerosols. It features the 3M™ Cool Flow™ Exhalation Valve, which helps direct exhaled air downward, allowing for easier breathing and up to 50% less breathing resistance compared to the non-valved 3M™ 8200 model. The mask incorporates advanced filter media that further facilitates easy breathing. For a custom and secure fit, the mask includes an adjustable M-noseclip, and for added comfort, it is equipped with stretchable, braided headbands and a lightweight design. This makes it comfortable for extended wear.
The 3M 8511 Mask is convenient and disposable, recommended for relief from dust and certain particles encountered during activities like sanding projects (such as working with bare wood, non-lead painted surfaces, or drywall), grinding, sawing, sweeping, and installing fiberglass insulation. Additionally, it helps filter pollen, mold spores, and dust particles encountered during outdoor activities such as gardening, cutting firewood, raking, and mowing. Importantly, it contains no components made from natural rubber latex, making it suitable for individuals with latex allergies. For DIY and home use, it should only be used in non-harmful environments. For occupational or hazardous use, it must be used under a regulated government respiratory protection program, such as those provided by OSHA.
Fitted with a 3M Cool Flow™ Exhalation Valve, this respirator is ideally suited for work situations involving heat, humidity, or long periods of wear. The proprietary 3M Cool Flow valve is designed to release hot, humid exhaled breath quickly, helping to prevent an unpleasant build up of heat inside the facepiece – a significant cause of discomfort to respirator wearers. The Cool Flow valve’s efficiency in keeping breathing cool and comfortable has been demonstrated through testing. The atmosphere inside a respirator with a Cool Flow valve is on average 7.5°F cooler than the similar product without the valve. This makes Cool Flow valve respirators ideal for long periods of wear, especially where conditions are hot, humid or physically demanding.
